The origin of the “School of Science and Technology of Gunma University” is in the national school of “Kiryu School of Textiles,” which was established in 1915. The Kiryu School of Textiles was established to develop the textile industry, which was Japan’s core industry at the time. Many volunteers from the Kiryu and Gunma areas cooperated to establish the school. Today, we have a lot of advanced research projects, for example, the Center for Research on Adoption of NextGen Transportation Systems (CRANTS) and the Center for Food Science and Wellness and International Research and Education Center for Element Science. These advanced research projects are performed with the cooperation of different research fields.

As a notable educational program, Global Frontier Leader (GFL) course and Problem Based Learning (PBL) education system are provided. The GFL course is an educational program provided in collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine to educate frontier leaders in the world. The PBL program will begin in 2022, and will give students the opportunity to discover many problems related to their future activities. In 2021, we introduced an educational curriculum that allows students to gather basic and broad knowledge in the lower grades and deepen their knowledge in the higher grades.

The school of Science and Technology of Gunma University conducts advanced research and education related to our history and Kiryu and Gunma regions. All students can learn and study in a natural environment filled with the friendly people of Kiryu city. Please study and learn many things to become an engineer who will create the future society or a researcher who will discover new topics.
